大工仕事のテーブル れいいち (Daiku shigoto no tēburu 01) - my first project where I made a piece of furniture in Kanawa Tsugi style, which is Japanese-like wood joinery without screws, nails other fasteners. This is my most time consuming project so far, but also my most interesting one yet.
This table was for a school project. We all made something that reflected our personality to get to know eachother better. I'm often bit subdued when you meet me at first, but when you get to know me better I open up a lot more. I wanted to translate this exact thought to my project.
I thought the best way to do this would be to make a very simply shaped table but build it up with only wood joinery and no screws or glue whatsoever. This translates to my personality; when you take a very quick look at the table it seems quite simple, but if you take a better look it becomes clear that it's actually very detailed and there's way more to it than you thought at first. The table opens up to you as you look better at it.
Also, wood is the perfect material to translate this thought because a lot of people see wood as quite a basic or even boring material, especially the pine wood I used, while it actually gives you a lot of options.
It took me a very long time to make everything as perfect as possible and even though it's still not completely perfect, I'm very happy with the result as this is my first time doing anything like this. I learned a lot from the making of this project, like the yakisugi technique and making wood joints with both hand saws and chisels, but also a table saw. I still have a lot to learn to make my joints tighter, but for a first time trying this with limited tools I'm happy with the result.
You can take a look at the process on my instagram as a highlight. Also if you have any questions about this project or if you'd like to see anything in the process like test models and visualisations, feel free to contact me via Instagram or e-mail.
